Empowering Smallholder Farmers: The Out-Grower Scheme

About

At Village Farms Limited, we are committed to building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships with smallholder and medium-scale farmers. Our Out-Grower Scheme is designed to foster long-term relationships that not only provide a sustainable market for farmers’ products but also offer vital support to enhance their farming practices.

Through this scheme, Village Farms ensures that our partner farmers have access to a readily available market, giving them the confidence to expand and invest in their agricultural ventures. We don’t just stop at purchasing their coffee—we go the extra mile by offering value-added services that make a real difference in their success.

These services include extension services, where our experts work closely with farmers to improve farming techniques and increase crop yields. Additionally, we offer input loans to support the cultivation process. These loans currently cover essentials like coffee seedlings, fertilizers, and chemicals for non-organic farms, ensuring that farmers have what they need to produce high-quality crops.

By participating in our Out-Grower Scheme, farmers gain the stability of a consistent market and the resources to elevate their farming practices. Together, we’re not just growing coffee—we’re growing communities, fostering economic development, and creating a brighter future for smallholder farmers in Malawi.

Partnership with Green Acres

Village Farms Ltd is proud to be a part of the Malawi Government’s Green Belt Initiative (GBI), a program designed to enhance agricultural productivity through sustainable land and water management practices.

In collaboration with Green Acres, we are currently cultivating sugarcane on a 10-hectare farm located in the Chikwawa Green Belt area of Salima District. This partnership is a key part of our commitment to expanding our agricultural operations and contributing to the country’s food security.

In addition to sugarcane, we have previously engaged in groundnut production at Kasiya in Lilongwe. Looking ahead, we have identified a new production site in Kapiri, Mchinji, where preparations are already underway for the upcoming season.

Through these partnerships, Village Farms Ltd continues to grow and innovate, bringing sustainable agricultural practices to new regions across Malawi.
